fat mice

Pest Control Liverpool, Wirral and Chester.

Its frustrating on some jobs where mice wont take the rodenticide bait. It is formulated to be as palatable as possible while having a decent shelf life. In this particular call grain bait was put throughout the house and on the follow up it appeared only a small amount of bait had gone even though there was still fresh (well fed) droppings about. The customers said they had put all food that is open in to plastic boxes. So what where the mice eating? A bit of digging about and I found this in a cupboard. A packet of fruit pieces. No wonder the mice wernt taking the bait with a luxury item on offer. With the fruit pieces removed the control treatment will be much more effective.

A call out yesterday for hundreds of these tiny wasps in Blacon. A young couple have a front garden which is graveled with a few shrubs in it but yesterday it was different. It had hundreds of these small wasps. It is likely they are a type of digging solitary wasp that had found preference with the graveled garden. Both of the customers had been stung by them. A quick spray with insecticide and they were sorted.

Applying insecticide to the walls around this skylight kills any insect that lands up there. This call tends to plagued by flies from nearby fields.

The call for wasps in West Derby was actually for tree bees. Tree Bees make there homes up in our roofs much like wasps. They are less aggressive than wasps but a lot of people still want them treating. Wasp nests at this time of year are very small and are rarely noticed.

Crocky Park
4/20/2014 1:33:26 PM
Waiting on a job in West Derby at 2pm so have stopped in at Crocky Park. It's not as busy as I would of thought seeing its bank holiday and the fairs here.

The job I'm waiting on is a return customer from last year. It's a wasp job. I wonder if it'll be like yesterday's misidentification and be mason bees instead.

mason bees

A call out for wasps yesterday. When I got there the guy took me round the back of the house to show me where his wasps were entering in to breathers above a window. As soon as I saw it I knew it was red mason bee's. They lay eggs at the bottom of holes in walls. They will then fill it with pollen for the grubs to eat when the egg hatches. They will lay as many eggs as they can depending on the depth of the hole. They often use these window breathers or another common place is where there has been a screw or rawl plug which has been removed leaving the hole. They can cause minor damage to already old walls but are not a major problem. This customer still wanted them removing as they were having a barbeque today. (In the photo you can just see one of the bees in the bottom hole.)

Rat Droppings?

A call this morning for rats in a kitchen. The house has stood empty for 5 months. The fridge and freezer had been emptied in preparation but they had forgot to empty the kitchen bin. Leaving food in an empty house is a big mistake. It will always attract pests. When I got there however it was not rat droppings scattered across the kitchen floor. It was fly pupae. Flies are similar to butterflies that they lay eggs which hatch into larva (maggots for flies, caterpillars for butterflies). When they are ready to transform into adults they pupate. This is what I found on the kitchen floor. Dozens of fly pupae. The food in the bin had gone off attracted flies, they had laid eggs, the eggs hatched in to maggots. Then the maggots had feasted on the food remains until all had gone then crawled away from the bin to pupate. No insecticide was needed for this call just a brush to brush them outside. The sparrows made a quick meal out of them.

mice in spuds

Mice in your spuds? Then give us a call on 0151 230 2707. This customer opened her veg draw to find big holes in her spuds. When she lifted the bag out she saw the draw was full of droppings. The mice had been getting up the back of the draws from under the units.

Mouse Chewed Dog Food
4/9/2014 7:29:54 PM

A bag of dog food in a shop that has become the main source of food for hungry mice. This is only one of the bags which has been chewed, plenty more have been damaged.

The mice in this shop are resistant to bromadiolone (a type of rodenticide) so alphachlorolose has been used to control them. There are more and more resistant mice out there.

early insects
3/24/2014 8:54:55 AM

The mild UK Winter and few warm days has brought on the insects early. I took this photo of ants 2 months ago in a chip shop in Ellesmere Port. I’ve treated 2 premises for cluster flies in the past week and I treated a commercial property for saw toothed beetles yesterday.

This year will no doubt be a bumper year for pests.
